What can you do to help fight the spread of computer viruses?

The STCS Information Technology Department works hard to maintain a virus-free network.  Here are just some of the ways you can help to deter the spread of computer viruses:

1. Always allow your regularly scheduled anti-virus checks to run to completion.  If you need to work on your computer while a scan runs, you can minimize it minimize when it comes up and just let it run in the background.  It should close on its own when done.

2. Visit the Windows Update site regularly and add any new, Critical Updates your computer may need.  If you need help with this, contact Bobbi Gorden.

3. Don't open suspicious e-mails.  If a message has an attachment and is from someone you don't know, it is usually best to just delete it without opening it. If you recognize the sender, but weren't expecting a file attachment from them, contact them to see if they really sent you something before opening it. Many newer viruses don't require you to open the attachment and some very new ones don't require any interaction at all, but being careful is always wise.

4. Contact Bobbi Gorden if you have questions or concerns about any file, e-mail, message, etc.
